Finding my community for this assignment wasn’t the easiest, but since I’ve always been interested
in learning about vintage fashion, I decided to work on this community. I expected the community
to be boring or filled with dull posts, but the opposite actually happened. The members shared
stunning, sentimental pieces, and their genuine passion surprised me. Everyone seemed eager to
uncover the history behind what they owned. Usually, when we think about online groups, there
are two kinds of people: those who love the topic and those who join to just criticize. Instead,
everyone seems to be fully invested in vintage fashion. The level of mutual respect was
outstanding; they were all nice toward each other, even when they had different opinions. That
was refreshing, especially since online spaces often make it easy to hide behind a screen and forget
kindness. This community was different and authentic. I even found myself liking different outfits,
especially the handbags. To understand more about the community, I did some research about the
history of vintage, its meaning, and how it started. This experience gave me a new appreciation
for a culture I hadn’t known much about before, and how powerful shared creativity can be in
bringing people together.
